The actual composition of a national demobilization and reintegration program varied depending upon the background of the conflict in question, socioeconomic profile of ex-combatants and conditions on the ground. Generally, a national program included the following components:
• demobilization • reinsertion • reintegration
• support to special groups • implementation arrangements
HIV/AIDS prevention and mitigation measures were also often included during both the demobilization and reintegration phases. National programs also addressed the cross-cutting needs of specific groups such as women and the disabled.
